ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Filipino-American pianist Dr. Tristan Savella is an active performer, collaborative artist, and educator based in Toronto. His international career includes performances at Carnegie Hall, Salzburg’s Schloss Mirabell, and the Canadian Opera Company. A decorated competitor, Tristan has earned prizes at the Concours Flame in Paris and the National YoungArts Foundation in Miami. The 2024-25 season sees Tristan performing at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage, Syrinx Concerts Toronto, and the Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society. An avid chamber musician, his repertoire this year spans solo works to collaborations for piano four-hands, cello, and oboe. Tristan holds a D.M.A. from the University of Toronto and degrees from the Eastman School of Music, the Mozarteum Salzburg, and the Glenn Gould School. He currently serves on the collaborative piano staff at The Royal Conservatory of Music and the Canadian Children’s Opera Company. When not at the piano, Tristan is an enthusiastic traveler, cook, and lifelong tennis fan.

Emily Tsai is a world-renowned orchestral and chamber musician based in Washington, D.C., where she serves as the Assistant Principal Oboe of the Washington National Opera Orchestra. Praised by The Washington Post for playing that “frequently catches the ears from the pit,” Emily is a mainstay at the Kennedy Center, performing regularly for operas, ballets, and musicals. A sought-after collaborator, she has performed with the National Symphony and Baltimore Symphony Orchestras and served as guest principal oboe on the National Philharmonic’s GRAMMY-nominated album, Samuel Coleridge Taylor. A celebrated chamber artist and former member of the award-winning wind quintet WindSync, Emily has earned gold medals at the International Fischoff and M-Prize Chamber Arts Competitions. Her discography includes the 2024 Abbey Road Studios recording WindSync Plays Miguel del Aguila, which debuted at #1 on the Classical Billboard charts. An active educator, she is currently on faculty at the University of Maryland School of Music and has led residencies at prestigious institutions such as the Eastman School of Music and the New World Symphony. Emily’s academic background is uniquely diverse; she holds a Master of Music from the University of Maryland and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Music from Eastman and a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Offstage, she is a dedicated marathon runner. When not performing on her Lorée Royal oboe, she can be found on the pickleball court or at home with her husband, Karl, and their two cats.
