Beginning Sumi-e Painting - 6/27/26 - 2-4 PM

Student Age: 18 and up

This class will be an introduction to the ancient art of sumi-e painting (Asian brush stroke painting). You will learn how to load a brush with ink and water, how to hold and control your brush, and how to paint bamboo. Sounds simple, right? I will be supplying everything you need: brushes, rice paper, and ink. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY!!!!! This class is designed for beginners - those of you who love the art form but have never tried it. You will love it.

Nancy Richards West has been painting professionally for over 60 years, but she discovered the magic of sumi-e ink painting only about 15 years ago. She has studied with leading Chinese artists, and has been selected to participate in numerous National Sumi-e Society shows.
