Plein Air Art Show
Ann Schaefer

Painting outdoors is one of Ann Schaefer's greatest joys. Although she has painted throughout her life, spending weekends and vacations capturing beautiful places on paper and canvas, she worked in Federal environmental programs for many years. She was able to retire early, and focus on her art, hoping that through painting she will help others appreciate that we live in a precious and fragile world. She spends much of her time on the Nanticoke River, painting the beauty of the eastern shore.

FISHING SPOT

Oil on linen panel  -  12" H, 16" W - Unframed
I found a quiet sandbar on Assateague and set up my easel. As I started to paint I noticed the egrets coming to fish. Before I finished, though, families with crab nets started to join me on the sandbar, and wade into the water. I'm tempted to return and paint all the people enjoying this spot.

UNSETTLED SKIES

$160
Oil on panel  -  6" H, 12" W - Unframed
This was a day when thunderstorms came and went. In between drenching downpours the cloud-filled sky and the light reflecting off the water were so beautiful. I grabbed this small canvas to capture one of those interludes.

Old houses catch light in interesting ways, changing throughout the day. The cool shade of the porch enhances the warm welcome of the Watson House on a hot summer afternoon.
