ABANDONED HOPE Dottie Troxler $425 Oil Painting- 8" H, 10" W Framed - Total: 13" H, 15" W This old, wooden work boat is resting in the shallows of Chincoteague Bay, off South Main Street. It is tied to a private pier. I started the painting about mid-morning and was pleased to have a beautiful blue sky with puffy clouds. It was high tide and the water was over the decayed gunwale. As I painted, I tried to imagine what the boat's history might be. I enjoy painting old, decaying boats and buildings. They have such interesting texture. Questions? DISTANT GHOSTS Dottie Troxler $325 Oil Painting- 8" H, 10" W Framed - Total: 13" H, 15" W Clusters of dead trees still standing are referred to as ghost forests. Unfortunately, there are now many ghost forests on the VA Eastern Shore. I have painted this long, wide glade on our road several times and now there is a ghost forest in the distance. This year, I noticed what appears to be an arrow as the water parts the marsh grasses flowing toward me from the top. Questions? Email [email protected] SOLD |
NEON GLOW Dottie Troxler $375 Oil Painting- 8" H, 10" W Framed - Total: 13" H, 15" W Everyone who's been to Assateague knows that this is where you often see the ponies grazing off in the distant trees. This was my first sunset painting and it was a challenge to capture the best moment of color quickly before it disappeared with the oncoming darkness of night. I set up about 5:00 pm and blocked in all of the landscape. I knew that would become almost black, but would not change position as the sun set. Next, I mixed up puddles of all the colors I expected to see, and then waited. The moment the sun started to set with the colors I hoped to paint, I grabbed my palette knife, scooped up one color after another, quickly spreading colors across my canvas where I saw it in the sky and in the reflections in the water. As darkness fell, taking light on my palette with it, I was left to finish the painting in total darkness. It was an experience I have not forgotten! Questions? REMEMBERING THE WAY Dottie Troxler $375 Oil Painting- 8" H, 10" W Framed - Total: 13" H, 15" W This view is on one of the walking paths off the "loop" on Assateague. It was painted in the fall when the marsh grasses are their most colorful. I love looking at this painting and imagining a couple resting on the rustic log bench as they enjoy some quiet time together, looking at the view and chatting without distractions or interruptions, until an eagle soars overhead or a deer appears nearby. ROSE HAVEN Dottie Troxler $375 Oil Painting- 8" H, 10" W Framed - Total: 13" H, 15" W While clearing phragmites at the end of our meadow a few years ago, my husband discovered this pond! With the tall phragmites gone, the sun could finally reach the little bit of native vegetation remaining around the perimeter. To our surprise and delight, Rose Mallows now grow in glorious abundance each summer, providing me with beautiful painting subjects, and attracting many admirers passing by. The flowers bloom in shades of pink from fuchsia to the palest pink to white. They attract butterflies of all types, such as the two small black butterflies gathering nectar in the painting. THE WINDING RILL Dottie Troxler $350 Oil Painting- 10" H, 8" W Framed - Total: 15" H 13" W This is a view of the glade looking west from our dock. It's the first time I've painted this site and the first time I've painted while standing on a dock. I started painting very early in the morning while the sky was still pink near the horizon, casting a soft light across the grasses. I was attracted to the pattern of the dark water winding its way through the marsh grasses, reminding me of a jigsaw puzzle. Questions? Email [email protected] Click to purchase |
