Plein Air Art Show
Duane Sabiston

In my childhood I knew I was an artist. In high school I knew I would teach art to share my love of color and light with others. So it was off to the Maryland Institute now MICA. After 30 years of teaching I followed a new dream, built a studio and started painting the great outdoors. I joined the Mid Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and now I'm free to roan from Monhegan Island Maine to Sanibel Island Florida.

SHIP WRECK AT MAIN STREET
Duane Sabiston

$550
Acrylic -  16" H, 20" W
Framed - Total: 22" H, 26 " W
First time I laid eyes on this wreck my imagination ran away with me. I wanted to be a kid again, dressed like Captain Jack Sparrow, climbing over and under and into the nooks and crannies of the decaying hull searching for GOLD Matey! In reality my only choice was to clench my teeth around my trusty 12" brush and start mixing the colors of sunlight that SPARKLE like gold coins and Mother of Pearl! Arrr, Matey!

SUMMER HAZE OVER THE 175 BRIDGE
Duane Sabiston
$350
Acrylic -  11" H, 14" W
Framed - Total:  17" H, 20" W
Pondering this scene, I decided to paint it from a Meteorologist's perspective. The intensity of the sunlight combined with the waves of humidity coming off the marshlands at Black Narrows is unmistakably Chincoteague.

SUNSET BEACH
Duane Sabiston
$290
Acrylic -  8" H, 10" W
Framed - Total:  12" H, 14" W
Family vacation at the beach and I could hardly wait to see what the sun had in store for us every evening. It was like going to a candy store with our eyes! Years later we took our kids and now they take theirs, my grandkids! So now I make paintings to preserve the memories..."Sunset Beach"  Assateague Island.

TREASURE HUNTERS
Duane Sabiston
$290
Acrylic -  8" H, 8" W
Framed - Total:  10" H, 10" W
Just as the morning sun breaks the horizon you'll see them staking out their claims with their buckets and beach bags. The kids are calling out "this is the best ever", "mine's perfect!" then Mom, "who's got the sun screen?" I smile and keep painting. It's a perfect morning for treasure hunters!

WAITING FOR LUNCH
Duane Sabiston
$290
Acrylic -  10" H, 8" W
Framed - Total:  12" H, 10" W
I have an intense fascination with water reflections as they're constantly changing. As a plein air painter I want to capture the essence of what I see with as few strokes as possible. So it's a matter of summarizing to capture the moment!

Acrylic -  8" H, 10" W
Framed - Total:  11.5" H, 13.5" W
Assateague Island presents visitors an endless labyrinth of coves and meandering shorelines to explore from early to late. Sometimes you find it early, sometimes not at all. Found mine late afternoon.
