Plein Air Art Show
Linda Amtmann

Linda Amtmann is a folk artist painting on driftwood for over 50 years.  Chincoteague has the beauty of nature and timelessness of a hard working Island community.  It is a constant source of inspiration. Twelve years ago I attended the Plein Air event where fellow artists asked why I wasn't participating in this show. Well?  I love a challenge!  Ten years of Plein Air painting and I still love the challenge: 1. Find a subject to paint.  2. Paint it before the light changes (about an hour).  3. Fend off bugs, wind, rain, 100 degree temps, delivery trucks parking between you and what you are trying to paint and hope the boat doesn't set sail while you are painting it!

BUCKETS
Linda Amtmann
$125
Acrylic  - 5" H, 7" W
Framed - Total: 8 1/4" H, 10 1/4" W
I wanted to capture the feel of summer on the beach. Children were building sand castles but they and their toys kept moving.  After a day of painting I took some time to swim, collect shells and build a sand castle. So the buckets are mine and I got out the paint gear and captured them while they held still.

KIWANIS
Linda Amtmann
$265
Acrylic  - 10" H, 8" W
Framed - Total: 13 1/2" H, 11 1/2" W
At first glance the white building with a dark interior didn't  look like a good composition.  Not to mention I would have to set up to paint on the pharmacy parking lot, No shade!  I passed on the idea of painting it.  Then I couldn't get it off my mind. The Kiwanis organization are hard working volunteers doing good deeds.  The least I could do was capture their fund raising sale of lighthouses.

COAST GUARD STATION ON ASSATEAGUE ISLAND
Linda Amtmann
$125
Acrylic  - 4" H, 12" W - Mounted for hanging
This is a wrapped canvas.  The painting's sand and sky continue around the top, bottom and sides. The Station on Assateague Island is a staunch reminder of the Coast Guard's service to mariners at sea. I love the way the sky and light are constantly changing.  It was my first painting for the Plein Air show 10 years ago.  I revisit it every year, each time painting from a different location.  North, South, East or West she always gives me her best to paint.

Framed - Total: 7 5/8" H, 9 5/8" W
Net Boats are a fixture here on Chincoteague.  I love the peaceful calm of them resting after a hard day of work. Artist Note:  Check with Captain to make sure he’s not going to move the boat while your painting!

Painting continues on side of wrap, see picture #2.) About 5 years ago I started noticing these decorated trees on Assateague. When you find one you can't help adding a shell of your own to the collection. Some people say they make a wish. Shell Tree is a Canvas Wrap.
