Plein Air Art Show
Linda Epstein

Grew up as a "wash-ashore" on Cape Cod, am now a "come-here" on Chincoteague. And always a painter, through school, college (Swain School of Design), through jobs (waitressing, auctioneering), through life in general - the good, the not so good, always a painter. Horses, landscapes, animals, people if I have to, and now, here on the island, in my Bad Ponies Studio & Gallery on Main Street. For me, this event, and plein air painting in general, is a time to to explore the beauty of the day in paint and light, and the company of good friends.

SUN CLOUDS OVER LEWIS CREEK
Linda Epstein
$400
Oil on board -  9" H, 12" W
Framed - Total: 14" H, 17" W
Another hot afternoon spent painting on the porch in July. Shade and a slight breeze make it bearable. The sun-sparkled clouds rising up through the big skies over the marshes make it remarkable!

THE YELLOW BOAT HOUSE
Linda Epstein
$350
Oil on Panel -  8" H, 10" W
Framed - Total: 13" H 1" W
It has been very hot July here on the island. Under the shade of my porch at the mouth of Lewis Creek is this view of a neighbor's boat house. In the afternoon the shadow thrown by the roof moves slowly down the its yellow wall.

THREE UMBRELLAS
Linda Epstein
$350
Oil on panel -  8" H, 10" W
Framed - Total: 13" H, 15" W
Umbrellas always seem so happy, invariably bright colors for other beachgoers to enjoy and giving a shaded circle of relief for their owners. Add to that a dramatic sky of billowing clouds moving through and quiet ocean and what's not to like!

MORNING LIGHT, DEEP HOLE
Linda Epstein
$350
Oil on panel  -  8" H, 10" W
Framed
Total: 13" H, 15" W
Looking up from the boat ramp off Deephole, saw these buildings gleaming in the morning light, which can change quickly. Because of that, and how hot it was in late July, took two mornings to catch this.

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING FOR ME?
Linda Epstein
$350
Oil on panel  -  8" H, 10" W
Framed
Total: 13" H, 15" W
The day friends and I wanted to paint equines, they were all sensibly hunkered down from the hot sun. We found the herd at the Refuge Inn willing to hang around for portraits, as long as the corn lasted! It is not impossible to paint a moving object and this filly, Jasmine I think, was willing to circle around in hopes of a treat, but no time for a background!
