Plein Air Art Show
Matt Fenton

Matt Fenton is inspired by the beauty of the visual environment and draws on experiences from his engineering career.  His artistic education began in the 1970s at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) and continued in Baltimore at School 33 for the Arts, the Mitchell School, Zoll Studio, and the Schuler School of Fine Art.  He loves painting Eastern Shore marshes, beaches and historic sites.

ASSATEAGUE CHANNEL, LATE AFTERNOON
Matt Fenton
$375
Oil on linen panel -  14" H, 11" W
Framed - Total: 21" H 18" W

It was late in the day when I headed for one of my favorite Chincoteague painting locations, the fishing pier at Veterans Park.  I love the way the afternoon sun creates vibrant greens, blues, yellows and browns on the waters of the channel with parts of Assateague Island in the background.

CAPTAIN TIMOTHY HILL HOUSE
Matt Fenton
$375

Oil on linen panel -  14" H, 11" W
Framed - Total: 19" H, 16" W

Traveling north on Main Street, I came upon a charming log cabin whose chimney was also built with logs.  An historic marker said it was the oldest  home on the island, built by Captain Timothy Hill around 1800.  The setting was beautiful with trees and a lovely pond.  It made for an enjoyable afternoon for painting.

CHINCOTEAGUE MARSH
Matt Fenton
$250

Oil on linen panel -  8" H, 10" W
Framed - Total: 12" H 14" W

I just arrived in Chincoteague and was eager to begin painting.  I pulled into the parking lot of AJ's on the Creek, a restaurant I've enjoyed on previous visits.  East of the restaurant is a large marshland; so I set up and contentedly painted this delightful oil.

CHINCOTEAGUE HARBOR
Matt Fenton
$275
Oil on linen panel-  10" H, 8" W
Framed - Total: 16" H,  14" W

Painted on a hot, sunny late July day from the wharf behind the Library and Sundial Books. The Captain of a sightseeing boat passing by waved to "the artist" (me); so I included his boat in the scene. I liked the positions of the piles, echoed by the distant utility poles.

MORNING AT THE BEACH ASSATEAGUE
Matt Fenton
$100
Oil on linen panel -  5" H, 7" W
Framed - Total: 8" H, x 10" W

I got up early to meet a fellow painter on the beach at Assateague just after sunrise. The beach was pristine, without the crowds that soon would populate the sand as the sun rose higher. The result is a wide, open beach with a small dune on the far left; the ocean and morning sky made a grand backdrop for the scene.

SALMON COTTAGE, CHINCOTEAGUE
Matt Fenton

$250
Oil on linen panel -  8" H, 10" W
Framed - Total: 15" H 13" W

The house located across the harbor channel from downtown Chincoteague provides traditional beauty in contrast to the newer, much larger housing nearby. The setting exudes the lazy warmth of a late summer day with low lying clouds and lush trees and shrubs.
